Since 2024, we’ve partnered with Stepping Out with Carers to help transform a growing charity into a recognisable national campaign, celebrating and supporting unpaid carers across the UK.
The challenge

Stepping Out with Carers is a national charity shining a spotlight on the extraordinary contribution of unpaid carers across the UK.

They bring people together through sociable group walks, offering connection, community, and much-needed respite for carers and those they care for.

In 2024, they set their sights on making a bigger impact with their annual walking festival, The Big Step Out, and they commissioned our help. Our role was all about creating a brand and campaign that could inspire participation at scale, while staying true to the warmth and humanity at the heart of the charity.

Since then, our role has evolved into a long-term creative partnership, supporting the ongoing development of the festival and leading new initiatives, including the Carers’Lives in 100 Objects digital museum.

Our work was built around one simple, powerful idea: TheFirst Step.

A concept rooted in inclusivity and encouragement, designedto inspire people from all walks of life to get involved. The brand balancesemotional resonance with a sense of fun, making participation feel accessible,uplifting, and immediate.

At the heart of the identity are the dynamic ‘legs’, adistinctive and flexible visual asset that brings movement, personality, andrecognition across every touchpoint.

Combined with a vibrant colour palette and playful designsystem, the campaign celebrates the diversity of people and places that cometogether to Step Out, creating a visual identity that feels as welcoming as thecommunity it represents.
